Want To Be A Successful Student.....?

Parents and Students,

Have you ever wondered what makes a student successful? 1998 and 1999 graduating seniors with a B or A grade point averages were asked what factors contributed to their success. This year's leadership students also offered analysis. You may want to review the 10 point summary below. Reflect....Act....

Successful Students....

  1. Set goals, personal and academic, and strive to reach them. They a develop a plan (what is needed), commit to its attainment and don't let setbacks halt progress.
  2. Complete homework on time and to the best of their ability. "Doing" homework is monitored by parents (as needed).
  3. Associate with other successful students. Their friends are good students and/or strive to be "the best they can be." They are not frequently "in-trouble" at school.
  4. Are active in extra-curricular activities that focus attention on positive values and productive lives - sports, school clubs, religious groups, service organizations, etc.
  5. Read plenty (school and for enjoyment) and observe those around them (friends, parents) doing the same or engaging in some form of home study/work.
  6. Have a regular place to study at home.
  7. Seek/have acquired inspiration or motivation from a "special" teacher.
  8. Are not absent from school.
  9. Share school and life experiences with parents and friends.
  10. Have regular home chores that are completed with only occasional reminders.
