Art I: Grades 9-12 (2 semesters) CSU/UC

This is a one year class that is a breadth course, focusing on a wide variety of studio projects that are based on selected artworks, artists, cultural and historical phenomena and aesthetics. Art I explores a wide spectrum of media to include drawing, painting, collage, sculpting, paper mache and printmaking. This course is aligned to the California State Standards of the Visual and Performing Arts and satisfies the Visual and Performance requirements for both the University of California and the California State University Systems.

Art II: Grades 10-12 (2 semesters) CSU/UC

Art II is a technique course, focusing on a wide variety of studio projects that are based on selected artworks, artists, cultural and historical phenomena, criticism and aesthetics. Art II further explores a wide spectrum of media to include drawing, painting, collage, sculpture paper mache and printmaking. Students should have successfully completed Art I. For students seriously interested in drawing as a finished form of art, this course introduces the drawing student to more advanced ways of looking at real life and interpreting it in various forms of drawing. The students will be expected to work up a portfolio and exhibit.

Ceramics I: Grades 9-12 (2 semesters) CSU/UC

This course explores a variety of ceramic sculptural experiences as well as emphasizes traditional utilitarian objects. Form and Function are highlighted during the course and consideration is given how ceramics and related arts have profoundly influenced mankind’s cultural, social and economic development. This course is aligned to the California State Standards of the Visual and Performing Arts and satisfies the Visual and Performance requirements for both the University of California and the California State University Systems. A safety test must be passed.

Advanced Ceramics: Grades 10-12 (2 semesters) [rc]

Students should have successfully completed Ceramics I. Advanced methods in pottery making, glazing, exploration of clay, and glaze bodies are covered. Instruction is given on the potter's wheel, which includes methods of throwing.

Studio Art P: Grades 11-12 (2 semesters)

Studio Art is a difficult course designed for those seriously interested in the practical experience of art, who seek in-depth skill, and who have completed Art I. This involves the rigorous study of the elements and principles of art. The focus is primarily on classic studio instruction using drawing as a method. This course will involve structured and rigorous drawing. A structured portfolio is due at the end of the year.

Studio Art AP: Grades 11-12 (2 semesters)

This is a college preparatory course for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience in art. This is a one-year course that involves a rigorous study of the elements and principles of art and focuses primarily on classic studio instruction using drawing as a method. Studio Art AP is a rigorous course for students who seek in-depth skills. A structured portfolio serves as the AP exam at the end of the year. This course involves structured and rigorous drawing. Students will be required to submit a completed portfolio for AP credit.

Art History P: Grades 10-12 (2 semesters) CSU/UC

This is a college preparatory course, which will familiarize students with the different concepts of the visual arts from cave painting to contemporary images. It involves extensive reading and writing. A research paper and written and oral reports are required. Meets the “F” requirement of the University of California.

Art History AP: Grades 10-12 (2 semesters) CSU/UC

This course provides students with an overview of the development of art concepts from a historic perspective. It is designed to meet US/CSU A-G requirements. Written and oral reports will be required.
