Derek Parra, Eisenhower graduate of 1988, was among eight athletes selected to carry the flag resurrected from the ashes of the World Trade Center.
Parra was originally going to skip the ceremonies due to his competition on the following day, but changed his mind after receiving the honor of carrying the flag.
