Derek Parra Day Held in San Bernardino

Derek Parra, Eisenhower graduate of 1988, and originally from San Bernardino, California, was celebrated with a parade and a rally. The parade went from the Orange Show to the Stampede Stadium. EHS was at the parade with their ASB, JROTC, Dance Group, Cheerleaders, Madrigals, MeCHA club and others.

Eisenhower students ready to congratulate Derek Parra

Previous to the parade and rally, Parra visited his elementary school in San Bernardino--Roosevelt Elementary. This was to keep a promise made to the students back in 1998 that if he went to the Olympics and won a medal, he would return to visit the school.

While at the rally, Parra was presented with an award from the student body as well as other gifts from the faculty. In his address to the crowd, Parra commented, "I can't believe it. I don't deserve it. But I'm glad that what I did was able to touch you guys in some way. I'm nobody special. I'm just like each and every one of you. I went to the same schools, grew up in the same places. Do the best, OK?"
