Department Mission

The English Language Arts and Multilingual Programs Department is committed to serving all students by strengthening literacy, language development, and academic achievement across our district. We support high quality instruction in English Language Arts, English Language Development, and multilingual programs that honor students’ languages, cultures, and identities.

Our mission is to ensure that every learner develops strong academic language skills, meets grade level standards, and is prepared for college, career, and lifelong success. We work in partnership with teachers, school leaders, and families to provide access to rigorous curriculum, effective instructional practices, and meaningful support systems.

For students who are English Learners, we focus on building English proficiency while supporting achievement in academic content. When students demonstrate English language skills and content knowledge comparable to their peers whose primary language is English, they are eligible to reclassify as Fluent English Proficient.

Through culturally responsive practices, multilingual pathways, and strong instructional support, we strive to create inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive.
