Resources for Teacher Leaders

Science is about making sense of the natural world! NGSS is shifting instruction away from simply knowing science to emphasizing using science and engineering practices to make sense of the world or solve problems.

The goal for the NGSS observer is to change the question from:

  1. Observer: What are you learning about? Students: Photosynthesis; to

  2. Observer: What are you trying to figure out? Students: How a tiny seed becomes a huge oak.

"CURIOSITY

is the compass that leads us to our passions
Follow it and  you won't be disappointed
The future belongs to the curious."

Rialto Unified School District’s science curriculum maps are standards-based maps driven by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and implemented using Discovery Education, Mystery Science, and teacher-created resources. Student achievement is increased when both teachers and students know where they are going (their standards), why they are going there, and what is required of them to get there.

Beliefs

The Rialto USD Science service area believes:

  1. Science is what you DO.
  2. All Rialto USD students can excel in science/ STEM and access to science/STEM is a social justice issue.

We (teachers) have agency, and we are the change we want to see.
